Jerome & Emma Townsend

From Elaine Lovelace's research:

Jerome was born May 19, 1843 when he grew up he married Emma D. in Marengo Township, Michigan and fathered Myron W., Bertha and Asaj (female).  In 1895 they were all residing in Marshall, Michigan.   Jerome died on September 9, 1885 in Marengo Township, Michigan of Typhoid Fever.  Villetta T. Townsend married Mathias Barhite and gave birth to Elna M., Lewis H.,  Jerome and Albert.  Miles, Sr. married Harriett and Jerome B. Townsend (Smith -Marshall, MI) fathered Miles, Jr. and Susan.  Owen L. married Mary.  All of Marengo Township Calhoun County, Michigan.

The is a picture of Jerome Townsend that John Dupray has.  This picture has the studio "Smith - Marshall, Mich." on it.  In the other pictures that John had and we couldn't identify, there was a photo of a lady taken at Smith Studios.  Perhaps this is Jerome's wife, Emma?

Jerome enlisted in Company A, 11th Cavalry on 9-21-1863 at Marshall, MI for three years at age 20.  His occupation was listed as a farmer on his Volunteer Enlistment form and his physical description was given as gray eyes, dark hair, light complexion and 5'9".

He was a Corporal when taken prisoner at Clinch River, VA on 12-23-1864.  He was discharged at Pulaski, TN on 7-12-1865.

Jerome died on 9-9-1885 at age 42 of Typhoid Fever.
