From Elaine Lovelace's research: The is a picture of Jerome Townsend that John Dupray has. This picture has the studio "Smith - Marshall, Mich." on it. In the other pictures that John had and we couldn't identify, there was a photo of a lady taken at Smith Studios. Perhaps this is Jerome's wife, Emma? Jerome enlisted in Company A, 11th Cavalry on 9-21-1863 at Marshall, MI for three years at age 20. His occupation was listed as a farmer on his Volunteer Enlistment form and his physical description was given as gray eyes, dark hair, light complexion and 5'9". He was a Corporal when taken prisoner at Clinch River, VA on 12-23-1864. He was discharged at Pulaski, TN on 7-12-1865. Jerome died on 9-9-1885 at age 42 of Typhoid Fever. |
